Scholarships for Undergraduate Programmes 2025/2026(MasterCard Scholars)

Makerere University Management and the Mastercard Foundation renewed their partnership for the second phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program through 2034.The scholarship scheme at the university seeks to enhance inclusive education and empower 100 youth from Africa to contribute to national and regional development. The scholarship will provide graduate and undergraduate scholarships spanning 10 years by supporting talented young people from Sub-Saharan Africa faced with economic challenges in their pursuit of university education.

    Eligibility
    Be a national of Uganda, refugee, students with disabilities, internally displaced young people, or international students, and fulfil the following conditions

    1. Applicants must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus under the private sponsorship scheme for the academic year 2025/2026. View Prioritised Undergraduate Degree Programmes to be considered for the Scholarship for Academic Year 2025/2026.
    2. Applicant must have completed their advanced secondary level education (or its equivalent) in an African country or
      Hold second class/credit diploma from any recognized institution or
      Must have passed the mature age entry of Makerere University
    3. Facing financial barriers
    4. Not a scholarship beneficiary
    5. Completed undergraduate studies
    6. Demonstrate leadership potential and community service
    7. Not more than 28 years
    8. Not more than 32 years old for Refugee or Persons with Disabilities

    Please Note:
    1. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for further selection engagements
    2. At least 70% of all awarded scholarships will be awarded to young women with a minimum of 30% for young men
    3. At least 25% of the scholarships awarded through the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program will be awarded to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
    4. At least 10% of the scholarships will be awarded to young people with disabilities
    5. Automatic disqualification for incomplete forms
    6. Any form of influence peddling automatically disqualifies applicants
    Scholarships can be cancelled where cases of impersonation, falsification of documents, or giving false/incomplete information are discovered
    7. The scholarship application process is free. Applicants are therefore cautioned not to pay monies to anyone claiming to help them secure the scholarship

    Applicants who do not hear from the University by the end of August should consider their application unsuccessful
